A story of success
Flou was founded in 1978 from an idea by Rosario Messina, a visionary and passionate entrepreneur determined to revolutionise the culture of sleep. Nathalie – the first modern textile bed, upholstered and fully removable, created in collaboration with Vico Magistretti – introduced an entirely new category of furniture and marked a turning point in the history of contemporary interior design.
Building on the immediate success of Nathalie, Flou continued to innovate and evolve, always upholding the highest standards of quality, design and functionality.
The brand developed a comprehensive bedroom collection and later expanded its offering with an exclusive range of sofas, armchairs, and furnishings for both living and outdoor spaces.
The Nathalie bed
Nathalie, the unmistakable bed with bows, was recognised in 2012 as a “Design Icon” and is protected under copyright law for its artistic value – despite being produced on an industrial scale.
In 2020, it was awarded the ADI Compasso d’Oro for Product Lifetime Achievement for its pioneering role in the textile bed sector and as a model of both functionality and poetic expression.
